MSS observes the READING WEEK (1st– 8TH SEPT 2014)
Mendrelgang Middle Secondary School
observed a week long Reading Week from 1st to 8th September 2014 withthe theme,
“Read for a healthier society.” It was organized by the school Literary
Co-ordinators. The objective of the programme was to highlight on the importance
of reading and to promote reading culture in the school.
Mr.ChaxingNorbu, the principal of the
School was invited as guest speaker on the opening day to highlight the
importance of reading in our lives, mainly highlighting on the International
literacy theme: International literacy and Sustainable development. The
literary coordinator later briefed on the activities designed for the week.
Posters and banners on the themes identified were displayed in the school.
A fun and instructive week of reading
activities were presented during the week. All class teachers helped to prepare
and present a wide variety of activities to observe the reading week: model reading was organized in which volunteer
languageteachers (both Dzongkha and English), andfew selected students enthusiastically
participated during the morning assembly. The model readers read exciting
articles so as to encourage and motivate students to read more.
The week was also marked by Zero period
after the normal 7th period during which students practised silent reading in
their respective class monitored by the class teachers. The non-class teachers
and the supporting staff of the school also spent the zero period by reading
books in the school library. Various genres
of books ranging from fictions, newspaper to fairy tales were selected as
reading materials during the reading classes. The class looked lively with the
reading corner filled with different articles, posters and slogans related to
the theme.
To make the reading week more
interesting and memorable, the students from various grades participated in
poster competition on the theme, "Read to travel the world". On Friday,
a BOOK REVIEW contest was held. All the
students were engaged in writing a review on a book they had read during the
week. The most awaiting and exciting program for the reading week was the class
wall magazine competition which was displayed in their creative ways in the
school MPH: hall looked beautiful decorated with reading posters and banners,
articles and other creative materials designed by the students to highlight the
reading theme.
The winners of the book review and
poster competition will be awarded individual certificates during the Annual
Award Nite. And the point for the winning classes in the wall magazine category
will be added to their class points.
The
reading week came to an end on 8th September marking the International Literacy
Day what speech by a UNESCO club member: MMSS family proudly rates the week as one of
the successful endeavours taken during the academic year.
